The CMU MRSEC administers an REU Program for undergraduate science and engineering majors. Students from various universities come to CMU to conduct in depth research at the MRSEC and the Materials Science and Engineering Department. This program consists of students from the PREM, an REU-Site, MRSEC REU Students and CMU students. The program begins with a project selection and lab safety training. Each student conducts research under the guidance of the senior project participants. After five weeks, a symposium is held where all the students present brief oral reports on their project goals, progress to date, and plans for the second half of the summer. The summer concludes with final research symposium where the students present their research for the summer. As a part of the program, the students will also produce a written report and fill out a questionnaire. The internship is also punctuated by additional education activities such as weekly technical seminars given by our faculty and staff and a final picnic at the end.
