I. Purpose: To make a cross-section (profile)
of the Atlantic Ocean from Cape May, NJ to Cape Roca, Portugal.
II. Description of Activity:
A.
Materials: pencil, ruler, data sheet (enclosed).
B.
Procedures:
1.
The scales used for the graph are the following:
a.
Horizontal Scale; 1 inch= 500 miles;
b.
Vertical scale; 1 inch= 1000 fathoms= 6000 feet.
2.
Using the data from the table, plot the points on the graph paper. Connect and
label points according to the information in the footnotes.
III. Answer (and or label) the following:
A.
Label the continental shelf at Cape May and Cape Roca. How wide is it at these two
locations.
B.
Label the continental slope.
C.
Label the abyssal plane.
D.
What is the vertical exaggeration of your profile?
